Job Description:

The Office of Environmental Resource Management (OERM) Climate Graduate Intern collaborates with the Climate Science team to provide professional level support to the USET Member Tribal Nations. This position will assist with projects, research and analysis, procedural studies, planning and carrying out of program and grant objectives. The Climate Graduate Intern is a remote position and reports to the Climate Resilience Program Manager/Tribal Climate Science Liaison.
Salary: $20/hour
Education: Bachelor’s (Preferred)
Appointment Period: January 2023 – December 2023

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops work plans in accordance with OERM Climate objectives
  • Assists Program Manager with maintaining ongoing contact with and provide assistance upon request to Tribal resource managers and other Tribal personnel involved in climate response planning and risk management (including BIA resource managers and staff)
  • Assists Program Manager with ensuring that NE/SE CASC research is framed holistically and inclusively so as to encompass the themes of environmental sustainability, traditional knowledge, exposure of Indigenous peoples to the impacts of climate change, adaptation, and interpretation of locally-relevant research findings
  • Assists Program Manager with assisting the NE/SE CASC Directors in the translation and communication of CASC science to Tribal officials and resource managers
  • Assists Program Manager with coordinating and organizing the planning, logistics, accounting, and programmatic activities for tribal related trainings, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Works with USET Climate Change Resilience Program team to maintain and update the USET Climate Adaptation Stories & Resources webpage
  • Completion of a Climate Change and USET Tribal Nations report and Climate Adaptation educations materials for USET membership
  • Attends Tribal environmental meetings, as necessary.
