Global Change Fellow Alumna | Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management | North Carolina State University

2016 – 2017 Global Change Fellow

Statement of purpose:

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management. Natural resource management agencies are tasked with not only managing climate-driven changes to protected resources, but also with managing the humans that utilize them. I strive to understand individuals’ climate beliefs and attitudes in order to meet the challenges presented by global climate change.

Description of research:

My research focuses on the ways global climate change can affect protected natural resources and tourism, and the social factors that play a role in visitors’ perceptions of these changes and their likeliness to support climate-related strategies enacted by federal agencies. I am also interested in the policies, management plans and other influences that impact institutional and personal adaptive capacity and climate risk. My research aligns most closely with the Southeast Climate Science Center Science Theme 1: Climate and Other Appropriate Projections to Use for Resource Management.
