Area(s) of Expertise

I am a historian of the African American experience. I have taught an interdisciplinary course on Hurricane Katrina and the history of New Orleans for more than a decade. Additionally, I am teaching a graduate course on Race and the Environment that uses Katrina as a starting point to think about climate change and historic black communities. My current research for my new book, Black Folk, focuses on the black working class and will include discussions about the impacts of global change on coastal communities.
