My research group is interested in fisheries ecology. Our investigations are focused on gaining a better understanding of factors that drive the population dynamics of marine and estuarine fishes. We use conventional sampling and tagging to monitor abundance and estimate vital rates of fish populations and relate these to variation in abiotic (e.g. winter temperature) and biotic (e.g. predation, harvest) factors. This information is often used in stock assessments of economically-important fishes with the goal of sustainable management.
