Area(s) of Expertise

I study drivers of environmental and climate literacy among K-12 students. This includes both describing, identifying, and evaluating factors that contribute to citizens who understand environmental and/or climate science, care about the issues, have the skills to analyze complex situations, and are motivated to act. In a climate-specific context, I’m interested in understanding how children might be different than adults in how they perceive and learn about climate change. I use these differences to identify educational strategies that will build climate literacy among children, hopefully ensuring the next generation is fully equipped and motivated to work toward climate change solutions. I’m also interested in finding ways that children might influence their parents in climate change perceptions and behaviors.
