Area(s) of Expertise
Nora Haenn’s research focuses on how small-scale communities manage their natural resources. Her research has examined the role of local environmental knowledge in environmental management, how common property institutions intersect with state institutions, participatory environmental management bodies, the creation and implementation of sustainable development projects, contrasting notions of environmental justice, and the state mechanisms employed to create and implement environmental policy. Her book Fields of Power, Forests of Discontent brings these topics together to describe how conservation programs took root in southern Mexico.
