SUMMARY:Transdisciplinary Approaches: The Science of Team Science
DESCRIPTION:Working on teams employing transdisciplinary approaches presents many challenges. \nIn the second webinar in the Transdisciplinary Approaches series\, speakers will share information about the keys to the success of complex teams and highlight the role of team function in large-scale projects. \nRegister Now  \n \nAbout the Transdisciplinary Approaches Webinar Series\nPresented by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the National Agricultural Library \n \nJoin us for a new webinar series highlighting opportunities and challenges of transdisciplinary approaches within agricultural research. Many of the problems facing agriculture are multifaceted\, and traditional disciplinary boundaries may limit our ability to address them. Additionally\, agricultural research has broad implications\, affecting economics\, social dynamics\, and the environment. Transdisciplinary approaches is a critical tool for tackling agronomic issues. It can address complex challenges that single-disciplinary approaches are not able to solve\, increase the likelihood of new practice adoption\, and avoid potential unintended consequences of more narrowly investigated findings. \nThe increased need for large-scale solutions to complex agricultural problems has led to new\, large-scale funding opportunities that require applicants to develop transdisciplinary research proposals that tackle program priorities in new ways. However\, because of the novel nature of transdisciplinary approaches and challenges associated with transdisciplinary research\, adoption of these practices and teams is limited. \nThis webinar series is targeted at researchers to better understand strategies for implementing transdisciplinary approaches\, team building\, and overcoming challenges\, and university administrators to better support novel transdisciplinary teams and their research. \n\nThis event is part of the Transdisciplinary Approaches webinar series

SUMMARY:Overview of Climate Change Impacts to Grassland Ecology
DESCRIPTION:Climate Change and Adaptation Training for Grasslands Conservation Practitioners – Part 1 \n\nNorth American grasslands are a regional priority of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The South Central CASC\, in partnership with the US FWS Science Applications Program\, the Northwest CASC\, and the North Central CASC\, will be implementing a training series for grasslands conservation practitioners starting in May 2022. Through our training series\, we will introduce practitioners to the science of climate change\, explore the impacts\, and discuss adaptation options available. \nThis training is free and online. \nThe June 13th webinar topic is: Overview of Climate Change Impacts to Grassland Ecology. This webinar will include an overview of climate trends\, the general response of ecosystems\, and expected transitions in the future. The webinar will include time for practitioner sharing and discussion of observed climate impacts on grasslands. The webinar is scheduled for 11am Central Time / 10am Mountain Time / 9am Pacific Time. \nSign-up form:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSetYlI3Y4J4s2Fj1jpaT9N94u4HbgetGGFtbpVVZWygn2-NZQ/viewform \nLink for more information: https://southcentralclimate.org/resources/webinars-workshops/training-for-grasslands/

SUMMARY:USGS Friday's Findings - Endangered Bumble Bees: Science on the Threats and Recovery
DESCRIPTION:USGS Webinar Event \nTitle: Endangered Bumble Bees: Science on the Threats and Recovery \nDate: February 25\, 2022\, from 2-2:30 p.m. eastern time \nSpeakers:John M. Mola\, Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow\, Fort Collins Science CenterIan S. Pearse\, Research Ecologist\, Fort Collins Science Center \nSummary: Bee population declines have been recognized for a few decades now – but it is only since 2017 that federal action on has really ramped up with the listing of the first federally endangered bumble bee species (Rusty Patched Bumble Bee; Bombus affinis). A once common species throughout the northeastern United States\, the species has been lost from nearly 90% of its historic range. Since the listing of the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee\, another bumble bee species (Bombus franklini) has been listed with several more proposed for listing. In this talk\, we will provide an overview of current science working to understand population declines and inform recovery plans of these important and fascinating species. We’ll present recent research on changing food availability for bumble bees as well as an ongoing population genetics study. We’ll also highlight ongoing efforts of other federal scientists working on occupancy modeling\, searching for a long-lost species\, and provide an outlook towards the future. \n________________________________________________________________________________Microsoft Teams meetingJoin on your computer or mobile appClick here to join the meetingOr call in (audio only)+1 202-640-1187\,\,836227449# United States\, Washington DCPhone Conference ID: 836 227 449#Find a local number | Reset PINLearn More | Meeting options________________________________________________________________________________
