Speaker Biographies:

  • Adam Terando is the Director of Climate Action with Iberostar Hotels and Resorts and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Applied Ecology at NCSU. His work spans research and application in the climate adaptation space. From the development of nature-based risk reduction solutions in the private sector, to new insights into climate constraints affecting prescribed fire managers and multi-generational conservation planning with tribal nations. Prior to his current position, Dr. Terando was a Research Ecologist with the US Geological Survey’s Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center, also located at North Carolina State University.
  • Hilary Morris is a User Support Specialist for the Southeast Conservation Blueprint. She also serves as the communications lead for the Southeast Conservation Adaptation Strategy (SECAS) partnership. Hilary has almost 15 years of experience working in landscape-scale conservation and science communication in the Southeast. She is passionate about connecting lands and waters to support thriving ecosystems, fish and wildlife populations, and communities. She believes in the power of strong partnerships, innovative science, and user-friendly tools to bring together the conservation community to achieve shared goals.
  • Shannon Deaton, PE is the Division Chief with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s (NCWRC) Habitat Conservation Division. She earned a B.S. in Biological & Agricultural Engineering and M.S. in Natural Resources at NC State University along with Environmental Science and Communication minors. For the past 27 years, Shannon has worked in three different divisions with NCWRC. Shannon’s experience includes environmental compliance, Environmental Assessments, landscape-scale planning, stream and habitat restoration, and wildlife resource planning, as well as climate change and resiliency focused efforts. She participated in the development of the 2012 Climate Ready North CarolinaNC Climate Risk Assessment and Resilience Plan, and Draft National Fish, Wildlife, and Plant Climate Adaptation Strategy 2024 revision (not released). Since the completion of the 2010 climate change addendum of the NC Wildlife Action Plan, she looks for ways to continue the conversation of planning for resilience and extreme weather events in conjunction with fish and wildlife conservation.
  • Ryan Boyles is the Acting Deputy Senior Administrator for the Climate Adaptation Science Centers. Ryan is an applied climatologist with emphasis on developing and delivering climate information and climate services relevant to decision making. His work is focused on how climate science can improve the understanding of impacts and adaptation for management of fish, wildlife, and ecosystems.
  • Lise Montefiore is a data scientist at Natrx, where her work supports both client-facing projects and internal research and development efforts. Her work focuses on environmental and geospatial data analysis, leveraging machine learning, statistical modeling, and remote sensing, with applications in shoreline change and co-benefit assessment. She also develops experimental methodologies to characterize Natrx’s nature-based solutions, integrating experimental data with computational modeling to evaluate their performance in coastal systems. She holds a PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University (2021) and was a Global Change Fellow with the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (2019-2020).
