Project Information

Principal Investigator: Rebecca Irwin (NC State University)
Project Start: August 2024
Proposed Project Completion: August 2026
Implements Science Plan Theme:  Synthesis
Co-Investigators:
Cari Furiness (North Carolina State University)
Nils Peterson (North Carolina State University)

Overview:

A wealth of climate information exists for the Southeast and US Caribbean, but managers face challenges accessing, interpreting, and using climate adaptation information effectively, especially under the rapid decision-making timelines they often encounter.

This project will use a co-production process to synthesize the current state of climate adaptation science and best practices for the Southeast and US Caribbean, identify regional data gaps, and create co-produced tools to improve access to and visualization of climate information. Multi-sector working groups will address priority topics identified in the synthesis, fostering collaboration among Southeast CASC Consortium members, USGS scientists, Tribal Nations, and management partners.

Final products will include peer-reviewed publications, interactive web tools, visual summaries, large-scale adaptation project maps, webinars, and a report identifying research gaps to inform future priorities. By enhancing access, understanding, communication, and actionable strategies, this project will support managers and practitioners as they advance effective climate adaptation efforts.
