Warming accelerates global drought severity. Nature

The authors examined global drought trends to better understand how atmospheric evaporative demand (AED) acts as a key driver of the magnitude, frequency, duration and areal extent of droughts. They found that increased AED significantly contributed to the expansion of moderate to severe droughts. They also suggest that AED is playing an increasingly important role in driving severe droughts which is likely to continue under future warning scenarios.

Indigenous critiques and recommendations for reclaiming nature-based solutions. PNAS

In this article, the authors outline Indigenous concerns and critiques of nature-based solutions (NbS) as a framework. Through two case studies, they show how Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge systems don’t make divisions between nature and culture. They argue for further exploration of these concepts to achieve greater resonance between NbS and Indigenous peoples’ rights.

Integrating the resist–accept–direct framework into natural resource decision-making processes for climate adaptation. Conservation Biology

In this article, the authors examined 6 decision frameworks commonly used by conservation practitioners in the context of resist–accept–direct (RAD) for climate adaptation. They found that RAD can easily be integrated into the existing decision processes to provide a menu of climate adaptation actions for navigating changing ecosystems.
