SE CSC Welcomes Dr. Ryan Boyles as New Deputy Director
Dr. Ryan Boyles will continue his involvement with the Southeast Climate Science Center in a new role as the federal Deputy Director of the SE CSC. Ryan has a long history with the SE CSC, becoming involved as a Faculty Affiliate in the NCSU Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences and advising several students since 2012 as part of the SE CSC Global Change Fellows program. He became the SE CSC University Director and served in that leadership role from fall 2014 – 2016. Ryan has led several SE CSC research projects, notably Developing multi-model ensemble projections of ecologically relevant climate variables for Puerto Rico and the US Caribbean, and Synthesis of climate model downscaling products for the southeastern United States. As the former State Climatologist and director of the North Carolina State Climate Office, he has extensive expertise in local and regional climatology, weather and climate applications, observational sensors and systems, data management, and climate extension services. In that role, he led development of a decision support system to explore climate-based risks and opportunities for loblolly pine growth, http://climate.ncsu.edu/pinemap/, and has developed a wide-ranging network of connections across the Southeast. Ryan will support the center mission immediately through project management, leadership for an upcoming workshop on ecosystem drought, and development of the next version of the SE CSC science plan. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys hiking, paddling, and playing tennis.
