Opportunity Description

The USGS Climate Adaption Scientists of Tomorrow Hydroclimate Program seeks graduate student mini-grant applications that demonstrate financial need for professional activities. The program aims to offset the cost of expenses related to research, professional development, and/or customary student educational expenses for students from diverse backgrounds in the climate sciences, and closely related disciplines, providing professional development opportunities to cultivate future leaders in the field. We especially encourage underrepresented students in STEM, first generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to apply.

The goals of the Climate Adaptation Scientists of Tomorrow Program are to:

  • to increase Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
  • cultivate the next generation of climate scientists
  • foster climate science programs at Minority Serving Institutions (Historically Black Colleges andUniversities, Tribal College and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions)

Eligibility:

  • Must be a currently full-time enrolled graduate student from a university that is part of the Southeast Climate Adaption Science Center (SE CASC), affiliated with a SECASC Tribal partner, engaged on a current SE CASC funded project, or currently enrolled at Savannah State University or Jackson State University. Financial Support:

  • Available funding up to $2,000 per successful applicant. Funding can be used for customary educational, professional development or research expenses related to the student’s degree plan in a climate related field.

Required Professional Development:

  • Successful awardees will be required to attend an online professional development workshop series co-organized by Louisiana State University and Auburn University. More information will be provided at award notification.

Timeline:

  • March 1, 2023– Application Deadline
  • April 1, 2023 – Award notifications
  • Jan 31, 2024 – Funding must be spent by awardees
