Evaluating and elevating the role of wildlife road crossings in climate adaptation. Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment
The authors show how wildlife road crossings can support species range shifts and protect access to resources. They argue that incorporating climate information into crossing prioritizations enhances the resilience of infrastructure and ecosystems into the future.
Forest plant invasions in the eastern United States: evidence of invasion debt in the wildland-urban interface. Landscape Ecology
The amount of forest within the wildland-urban interface (WUI) is increasing and housing-associated disturbances are enabling the spread of non-native plants. The authors assessed the relationships between drivers and invasion, and found that the degree of invasion in WUI forest plots was significantly higher, underscoring the importance of monitoring and managing forests that have recently entered the WUI.
Human-caused ocean warming has intensified recent hurricanes. Environmental Research: Climate
This study introduces a novel rapid attribution framework that quantifies the impact of warming North Atlantic sea surface temperatures (SST) on observed hurricane maximum wind speeds, which has potential to improve the assessment of current and future storm risks. The authors suggest that quantifying the connections with the framework can support climate communication by enabling stakeholders and the general public to make connections between SST and hurricane intensity.
