Applications of species distribution modeling and future needs to support marine resource management. ICES Journal of Marine Science

Authors explore how species distribution models (SDMs) have been used for ocean management needs. They explore past usage for management activities, marine spatial planning, survey optimization, and interfacing with ecosystem and climate models. They also point out information needs and call for a community of practice around SDM development and use.

Reflections on preparing regional chapters for NCA5. Climatic Change

Regional chapter authors from NCA5 provide reflections on the process and identify best practices for developing an effective regional chapter. They offer recommendations to improve future regional chapters including possible revision of regional boundaries, inclusion of authors from underrepresented regions on national-scale topic chapters, cross-chapter engagement, a communications plan for the post-release period, and better coordination with sub-national climate assessments.

Urbanization results in highly dynamic, degraded benthic macroinvertebrate communities in North Carolina streams. Hydrobiologia

Macroinvertebrate communities from urban stream sites were compared to those from highly forested stream sites to determine how urban land cover impacts in-stream communities. The authors found that urban streams were degraded and lacked richness, diversity, and pollution tolerance relative to the forested streams. They also analyzed the urban streams across 20 years of development and found that species compositions differed significantly, with pollution-tolerant species replacing other tolerant species.
