2025 Southeast Aquatic Drought Workshop Report Now Available
The final report from the 2025 Drought and Aquatic Ecosystems in the Southeast Workshop, co-hosted by the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC), NOAA’s National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), and the Southeast Drought Early Warning System (DEWS), has been released.
Held in January 2025 at NC State University, the workshop brought together a diverse group of climate experts, natural resource managers, and decision-makers from across the Southeast. The event focused on understanding the region’s vulnerability to aquatic drought, enhancing hazard-ready preparedness, and building resilience through collaborative approaches.
The newly released report provides a comprehensive overview of the discussions, themes, and actionable strategies that emerged from the three-day event. It includes insights on:
- Current and projected drought trends in the Southeast
- Climate adaptation strategies tailored to ecosystems and communities
- Recommendations to strengthen regional drought resilience
