Overview

Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities steward natural resources to sustain environmental and human health, traditional ways of life, and cultural identities. Casey Thornbrugh is the Senior Tribal Climate Science Liaison for the Southeast and Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Centers and Program Manager for Climate Program in USET’s Office of Environmental Resource Management. He acts as the liaison between Tribal Nations in the Northeast and the Southeast, the United South and Eastern Tribes Inc. (USET), the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and climate science researchers. Steph Courtney is the Assistant Tribal Climate Science Liaison with USET, with a particular focus on the Tribal Nations in the footprint of the Southeast CASC. USET was established in 1969 as a non-profit, inter-Tribal organization serving thirty-three federally recognized Tribal Nations from the Northeastern Woodlands to the Everglades and across the Gulf of Mexico. USET is dedicated to enhancing the development of Tribal Nations, improving the capabilities of Tribal governments, and improving the quality of life for Indian people through a variety of technical and supportive programmatic services.

The presentation will highlight activities in support of tribal climate resilience and adaptation by the Southeast CASC and CASC network, the role of CASC Tribal Climate Liaisons, general science priorities of Tribal nations in the SE, and Tribal resources available.
