Blue Carbon Toolbox: Federal Resources For States To Develop Coastal Wetland Greenhouse Gas Inventories
Hosted by: The Pew Charitable Trusts
States are beginning to incorporate coastal “blue carbon” habitats like tidal marsh, tidal forested wetlands, and seagrass beds into their natural and working lands strategies for reducing emissions and enhancing carbon sequestration and storage through improved land management. A key first step of this work is understanding how much carbon is now being sequestered and stored in state’s coastal habitats. Developing greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories for coastal wetlands can improve this understanding and serve as a baseline for maintaining and expanding blue carbon resources in support of state climate goals.
To learn more, please join the Pew Charitable Trusts, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), and Silvestrum Climate Associates on May 26 for a webinar focusing on coastal wetland data within the U.S. National Greenhouse Gas Inventory of Emissions and Sinks (US NGGI), and how states can utilize this data and other federal resources to develop their own state-level greenhouse gas inventories for blue carbon habitats. The development of a blue carbon inventory in Oregon will be featured as a case study.
