About the Seminar: Since the early ’90s, Burmese pythons have had quite a successful invasion story-occupying a vast proportion of south Florida and reaching high densities within the Everglades National Park. But, whether or not pythons are capable of maintaining their invasion throughout peninsular Florida, or beyond, is a topic of considerable debate among experts. Alex will present a new approach that leverages information about pythons’ responses to local weather extremes, road deaths, removals from hunting, and habitat requirements to make predictions about the pace and extent of their spread in Florida. Alex will discuss the use of this tool to inform future management strategies.

Speaker: Alex Baecher, PhD Candidate in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida.
