Title: Utilizing the USFWS National Wetlands Inventory Program
Date: February 26, 2020
Time: 1-2 p.m. EST
Presenter: Jane Harner
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the principal U.S. federal agency tasked with providing information to the public on the status and trends of our nation’s wetlands. The FWS National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) is a publicly available resource that provides detailed information on the abundance, characteristics, and distribution of the nation’s wetlands. NWI data provides scientifically based information on wetlands and deepwater habitats to promote the understanding and conservation of the nation’s wetland resources through research, education, resource management, and policy development. This webinar will highlight how the NWI geospatial dataset and Status and Trends studies can be utilized by organizations dedicated to protecting and restoring coastal habitats.
You will learn about:
- The NWI mapping program and how to view and access NWI geospatial data
- Recent coastal mapping updates and where data updates are currently in progress
- NWI Status and Trends studies and how they affect national policy and management strategies in coastal areas.
- How NWI geospatial data can inform the wetland restoration process
