An online article in Nature, revealed that 2011 emissions were up by 3 percent, a number that continues to track the high end of emissions scenarios, leading many to believe it unlikely to stay below 2 degree Celcius (3.6 F) above preindustrial levels.
A report by the World Meteorological Organization stated concentrations of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere reached record highs in 2011,
indicating “climate change is taking place before our eyes.”
