Hailey Shanovich Awarded at Entomological Society of America Meeting
Congratulations to SE CASC Climate Change and Wildlife Action Postdoctoral Fellow, Hailey Shanovich, for being awarded the John Henry Comstock Award at the Entomological Society of America North Central Branch Meeting!
Hailey was recognized for her work on Camp Sketchapod, a workshop she taught at that focused on offering attendees of any skill level the opportunity to learn about the science of Entomology through scientific illustration.
In her fellowship, Hailey is working on translational science on climate change and its impact on wildlife conservation. She works closely with Paul Armsworth at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville.
“Being recognized by the Entomological Society of America’s North Central Branch with this award is truly a great honor as all my graduate studies, research and roots in ecology and adaptation began in the region,” says Shanovich.” So many of my mentors and role models in the field have received this award through the Society and it’s a bit surreal to be receiving it now myself! I greatly appreciate the Southeast CASC’s support in allowing me to maintain my connections in entomology as an early career professional and challenging me to innovate and merge them with the field of climate adaptation.
This is Hailey’s second award from the ESA. She was also recognized with the 2023 Kenneth and Barbara Starks Plant Resistance to Insects Graduate Student Award.
Congratulations Hailey!
