SE CASC University Director, Derek Aday, Named American Fisheries Society Fellow

SE CASC University Director and NCSU Applied Ecology Department Head, Derek Aday, was named an American Fisheries Society Fellow during the American Fisheries Society annual meeting from September 29 – October 3, 2019. The original news post, written by Michelle Jewell, can be viewed here.

Applied Ecology Department Head and Professor Derek Aday was named a Fellow of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) at their annual meeting in Reno, NV.  AFS is the world’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to strengthening the fisheries profession, advancing fisheries science, and conserving fisheries resources.  Fellows of AFS have made outstanding or meritorious contributions to the diversity of fields within the society that can include, but are not restricted to, efforts in leadership, research, teaching and mentoring, resource management and/or conservation, and outreach/interaction with the public.  Derek is one of seven fellows to be recognized in 2019.
The American Fisheries Society was established in 1870 in New York City originally as the “American Fish Culturists’ Association.”  Currently, the society has over 8,000 members from around the world.
