Interactive Coastal Erosion and Flooding Workshop
March 15, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Description
Flooding is becoming more common in Wilmington and surrounding coastal communities as sea levels rise and storm intensity increases. Coastal residents can provide important details of storms and flooding that help cities and planners design solutions.
Join us for a fun and interactive afternoon where you will role-play as a resilience planner to decide how the North Carolina coastline should handle flooding and sea level rise.
In this program we’ll learn about the social, environmental, and economic implications of coastal flooding and sea level rise. We’ll work together to better understand and discuss the needs of community stakeholders, the environmental impacts, and potential policy solutions. At the conclusion of the workshop we will examine and measure the growing issue of coastal flooding on our own roads, neighborhoods, and backyards.
The workshop will include:
– Community Planning Game
– Presentation on helping build a community flooding archive
– Flood sensor demonstration
