Power, Water, & Indigeneity: Tribal Voices and Perspectives on Flood Resilience

April 18, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals

Part of the Webinar Series – Bridging the Equity Gap: Flood Resilience for the Whole Community

Since time immemorial, Indigenous communities have stewarded and thrived along floodplains. In spite of the government policies and practices that disconnected tribal communities from floodplains and their ancestral lands , tribal flood risk managers still lead the conversation around whole community flood resilience. Join the Institute of Tribal Environmental Professionals and the San Francisco District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for an indigenous-led discussion on community resilience and flood risk management.

Panelists will share experiences and perspectives on recent flooding, hazard mitigation, and sea-level rise adaptation.

9am Alaska, 10am Pacific, 11am Mountain, 12pm Central, 1pm Eastern

Guest Speakers Akiak Native Village – Sheila Williams & Joel Neimeyer Santee Sioux Nation – Kameron Runnels & More
