Statement of purpose:
I am a first year PhD student in the CCEE department at NC State University. I have a background in air quality engineering and mathematical modeling, and my current research at NC State focuses on using computational models to identify climate change impacts on air quality and air emissions influences on climate change. My goal is to use computational modeling as a tool to inform air quality and climate change adaptation policy making.
Description of research:
Emissions of pollutants into the air have direct impacts on climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions for example, which include but are not limited to CO2, CH4, N2O, and fluorinated gases, together with the depletion of stratospheric ozone layer, are the main causes of the warming planet. Climate change/atmospheric warming will then lead to higher concentrations of ground-level ozone and particulate matter, etc., which can cause severe damage on human health and on the ecosystem. While my dissertation research project is still evolving, my current ongoing research focuses on using large climate ensemble model simulations to identify air quality influences on global and regional climate change, as well as climate change impacts on air pollutant transport and transformation.
