Area(s) of Expertise

I am a cultural anthropologist, writer, and assistant professor of race and environment at the University of South Carolina where I hold a joint appointment in the Department of Anthropology and the School of the Earth, Ocean & Environment and affiliate status in the Departments of African American Studies and Geography. Broadly, my research focuses on the ways in which racial inequalities and geographies are forged through scientific practices, racial histories, and transformations of rural and built environments, particularly in the context of environmental and climate change in the US South. This had lead to a series of ethnographic and collaborative projects on the politics of coastal restoration in south Louisiana with coastal communities, scientists, and engineers.
