How Parks Can Make Communities More Sustainable and Resilient

January 28, 2021 @ 1:15 pm - 2:45 pm

Parks and recreation systems have evolved in remarkable ways over the past two decades. No longer just playgrounds and ballfields, parks and open spaces have become essential green infrastructure with the potential to contribute to community resiliency and sustainability. To capitalize on this potential, the parks and recreation system planning process must evolve as well.

Join SSF and Island Press in a 90-minute educational session about how to work within your community to use parks to move the sustainability needle and generate multiple community co-benefits.

Meet the Panel

Author of Parks and Recreation System Planning, landscape architect David Barth, Ph.D. will lead webinar participants in a new, step-by-step approach to creating parks systems that generate greater economic, social, and environmental benefits.

David has developed parks and recreation system master plans for over 100 communities throughout the United States, including Washington, D.C; Miami-Dade County, FL; Norfolk, VA; downtown San Diego, CA; and the City of Raleigh, NC. Most recently he authored APA’s Planning Advisory Service Memo Alternatives for Determining Parks and Recreation Levels of Service.
